FAST FACTS: 

Medill was a lawyer by training.

Medill served in the Ohio General Assembly from 1835 to 1838. He was elected to two terms in the U.S. House of Representives, 1838 - 1842. 

Medill served as Commissioner of Indian Affairs during the Polk administration. 

He served as acting governor after the resignation of Reuben Wood and was elected governor for the 1854 - 1856 term. 

Medill never married.
