FAST FACTS:

Jarmusch moved to New York City in 1971 to study literature at Columbia University. He later attended NYU film school. His final film project, a short called Permanent Vacation, evolved into his first feature length film.

His next project, Stranger Than Paradise (1984), exhibited the long takes and minimal camera movement for which he would become famous.
