FAST FACTS:

As a young man, Hope tried his hand at boxing under the name Packy East. Things didn't go very well, so he opted for a show business career instead.

He and his partner George Byrne established a vaudeville act at the Cleveland Theater. For a time, the two toured together.

Hope went on to appear on broadway, and in over fifty films during his lengthy career.

He received five special Oscars for his humanitarian work, including the many shows he has done for the USO, entertaining troops around the globe.
