FAST FACTS:

Harvey Pekar decided to make a comic book about his everyday life. Recruiting illustrators like Robert Crumb and Frank Stack, he launched American Splendor in 1976. It was a ground breaking idea in the world on comics. Featuring characters and events from his everyday life, Splendor became an instant classic.

He has appeared on "Late Night with David Letterman" eight times over the years.

In 1987, he won the American Book Award for American Splendor.

He is also an award-winning contributor for WKSU radio in Kent, Ohio.

In 2003, they made a movie about Harvey.
