FAST FACTS:

Woods patented over 60 different inventions. A significant number were eventually sold to companies like General Electric, Westinghouse, and Bell Telephone. Probably his most famous invention was a system for proximity warning system for trains. It represented a major safety breakthough in rail transportation.

Woods didn't attend school beyond age ten.
