FAST FACTS:

A widely respected journalist, Downs recently retired after 60 plus years in television and radio.

Most recently, he co-hosted the popular evening news program, 20/20. He also hosted the Today Show for nine years.

In 1985, the Guinness Book of Records listed him as having logged the greatest number of hours on network television.

His career started in 1949 as the announcer for the kid's program, Kukla, Fran, amd Ollie .

Downs is also an accomplished activist and author.
