FAST FACTS:

Crile was co-founder of the Cleveland Clinic.

He performed the first successful thyroid operation and the first successful direct blood transfusion for humans.

He also developed "Crile's Method," in which local and general anaesthesia are combined in sequence to eleviate fear and tension before an operation.
