FAST FACTS:

Bellows was a strong, athletic man. He came very close to pursuing a career in professional baseball. Later as an artist, the human form and athletic pursuits would become a major theme in his work.

Bellows was one of the most notable American realist painters of the early twentieth century.

He moved to New York City in 1904.

He died ubruptly of acute appendicitis in 1925.
