FAST FACTS:

Armstrong was the first man to walk on the Earth's moon. He became a NASA astronaut in 1962. His first space mission was as command pilot of the Gemini 8 mission on March 16, 1966.
The historical Apollo 11 lunar mission was launched July 16, 1969. Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Edwin Aldrin landed on the moon's surface, July 20, 1969. At 10:56 EDT, Armstrong took humankind's first step on to the moon.

Armstrong flew seventy-eight combat missions during the Korean War.
